Reintroducing me
Anyway, now onto the good stuff, the new stuff. A lot has changed since the last time my social media connected to this was active, including my domain name. I wanted to align it with something that felt more aligned to me, and nothing will ever be more aligned with me than Sunny, so he’s the focal point of this blog, now. There’s some irony in that, because right now I am finishing up my last couple weeks of spending two months away from him.
So, a quick recap of the last few years seems necessary.
I moved out of Summit County a year and a half ago, and spent a two months living out of my minivan. It reminded me of my dream to live in a vehicle, so I bought a bigger van and spent the summer in NY building it out with my dad. I took it to get my Wilderness EMT in Bryson City, NC and after a short road trip it had some major issues. Luckily, it happened near my friend’s house, and her parents put Sunny and I up for a couple weeks. Not wanting to put Sunny in harms way I went back to NY and bought a much more reliable truck, and a slide in camper.
The next six months were pure bliss in the camper. I went to Utah, where my brother, John, lived in the big van he helped fix, and I lived in the camper. I had a job I loved at a local restaurant where I made lots of friends. I got to hike and skateboard a ton, even breaking my wrist doing the latter. I got to go on trips to Southern Utah, and even one all the way up to Whitefish, MT to visit my boyfriend, Hunter.
After a few months in Utah my dad called me, asking if I would like to get a pass to Silverton for the unguided season. My love for big mountain snowboarding has grown to a level that made it an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. In March I left my job in Utah, trading it in for a job in Leadville. I spent the rest of the winter between Leadville and Silverton. It was an amazing few months getting to ride some of the best, most challenging terrain I’ve ridden three days a week and working for my best friend, Kristy the rest of the week.
After a great few months I had an eventful road trip back to the east coast, seeing Yellowstone and the Tetons for the first time with Hunter, and many friends and family along the way. When planning to do some fun upgrades on the camper and truck throughout the summer with my dad we found a lot more to do. There was extensive water damage throughout the camper, causing a large portion of it to need rebuilding. Lucky for me my dad has put some extensive work into the camper, rebuilding the water damaged areas, adding solar and a diesel heater, and a ton of other necessary upgrades throughout the summer.
Now, Hunter and I have two weeks left of a work stay program on the Big Island of Hawaii. We have loved every moment of Hawaii, but Sunny is definitely one of the big missing pieces of this trip. There will be a blog coming soon on our day to day life here and what adventuring on an island has looked like! We’ll have a fully functional camper to come home to and I am very excited to move back into it! Once back in the camper it’s the time of year to drive across the country. We both have jobs at Mt Hood SkiBowl that we are very excited to start.
So, things have been busy, but in the best way possible. While a blog wasn’t my main priority for a while it was always something that I wanted to get back to. I love sharing my adventures and hopefully inspiring other people to go on some more of them. I am so excited to start sharing my adventures again, and I hope you continue to follow along with them!
