We left Hawaii!
A bittersweet ending, and a long travel day later, we have made it back to the mainland. Starting in New York, Hunter and I will be heading across the country slowly, seeing a lot of friends and family along the way. As much as leaving Hawaii was a little bit sad, we are very excited for our next adventure!
We wrapped up our stay in Hawaii hanging out with all the other people at the farm, having a day where we got to go to Mauna Kea, and the night market in Hilo! The next day we had a Day of the Dead celebration with everyone at the farm, with Tamales prepared by Andrea! Having an opportunity to say goodbye to everyone in a fun way was really great. It was a wonderful experience getting to spend two months creating a home in Hawaii.
We also spent a couple days in Kona. We went out to dinner to celebrate Hunter’s birthday, a little bit late, and went to Kona Brewing! It was great to see such a famous brewery in action. The next day we spent exploring. We walked Old Airport Beach, where there was a great trail through a garden. The beach there was really pretty, with a lot of white sand, which is rare for the Big Island. We also went to Kaloko-Honokohau National Historic Park, and explored the beach there. There were tons of turtles, which was very exciting, as that was something we were not expecting! It was a great weekend to finish up a great couple of months.
After almost 24 hours in an airport or on an airplane later, we landed in Rochester, where just after I was reunited with Sunny! Coming home and getting to hug him was something I had been looking forward to for many weeks, and it did not disappoint. Almost as exciting was being reunited with the camper. Thankfully my dad had finished everything I asked for, and more. The camper feels like home again and I’m extremely excited to be back in it.
The camper is a little snug with another person, but all of the storage that was added this summer was a necessary upgrade. It makes it easy for it to be livable for two people. The camper and truck look so much bigger this year as well, especially with the addition of the airbags on the truck and roof box on the camper. We’re still barely over 12 feet tall, though, so bridges will rarely be an issue! The heating and fans are set to go, so Sunny will be safe in there in any weather! Everything came together beautifully for the camper to be just as homey as it was last winter, but hopefully with a few less issues!
For 48 hours Hunter and I crammed everything into the camper, organized, cleaned, did our last minute shopping, and got groceries. We also had an early Thanksgiving with my family. It was great to see everyone. We also got to enjoy my mom’s whole Thanksgiving dinner, while not having to pay crazy prices to travel home around the holidays.
After our jam packed couple days in New York, Hunter, Sunny, and I are back on the road! We have 3 more weeks of road trip fun, before we have jobs that will be starting. Although we are excited to get a paycheck, we are also excited to see all of our friends and family along the way!
